Ban on PTI, Government decides
Ban on PTI, The Government decides to take legal action against PTI, filing references with the Supreme Court to seek a ban on the party and initiate Article 6 proceedings against its former leaders. Information Minister Ataullah Tarar announced this at a press conference, expressing the coalition’s intent to challenge the Supreme Court’s ruling on PTI’s entitlement to reserved seats.
Tarar accused PTI of anti-state activities, including sabotaging an IMF deal, obtaining prohibited funding, and instigating the May 9 riots. He also blamed PTI for resettling the Taliban in Pakistan and attacking state institutions. The government aims to ban PTI due to these alleged actions.
The minister highlighted that PTI did not conduct intra-party elections and questioned the Supreme Court’s relief to PTI members who did not request it. Tarar also mentioned plans to pursue high treason charges against former leaders Arif Alvi, Imran Khan, and Qasim Suri.
The government’s spokesperson accused PTI of creating a false narrative around a diplomatic cipher and targeting the NAB chairman to influence ongoing cases. The government shelved previous plans to ban PTI, but recent legal victories for PTI have prompted it to renew efforts against the party and its leadership.
