OpenAI has introduced a new voice mode for ChatGPT, making conversations more engaging and realistic. This new feature, available in the latest ChatGPT-4 version, will first be accessible to paid users and will become available to everyone by fall.
Unlike the robotic tones of Alexa or Siri, this update gives ChatGPT a lifelike quality, allowing it to respond in real time, detect emotions, laugh at jokes, and manage interruptions seamlessly. According to CNN, during a demo, the chatbot’s voice sounded notably similar to Scarlett Johansson’s.
Currently, ChatGPT has a basic voice mode, but this advanced version could revolutionize interactions by making conversations feel natural and friendly, posing a significant challenge to established voice assistants like Siri and Alexa. The update, initially scheduled for June, was delayed by a month to ensure it met all safety standards and was reliable.
OpenAI announced that the new voice mode has been tested by over 100 users across 29 regions and 45 languages to identify any potential issues. This development follows OpenAI’s announcement of testing an AI-powered search engine, which could compete with Google’s dominance in online search.
